Alpaca fibre

Alpaca shawl

Alpacas are bred for their wonderful fleece, know as fibre. The Alpacas are sheared once a year and their yarn is used to make high quality knitwear.

Alpaca yarn is special because:

It is very soft to the touch, many people who can not wear sheep's wool because it is itchy, are able to wear Alpaca,
It is very warm, (allowing Alpacas to live at altitudes of 4000 meters) and a very light garment can still be very warm,
It is very durable and garments can last a lifetime,
It drapes very beautifully and does not become limp.

San Gabriel Alpacas work exclusively with Zarza Alpaca to produce high quality knitwear.

Zarza Alpaca produce a limited edition range of high quality Alpaca accessories and knitwear, designed and made in Italy by artisans whose skill has been developed and passed down through generations.

Made from Alpacas reared naturally in a stress-free environment on the slopes of Mount Sirino in southern Italy and Umbria, the fleeces are fine and grow strong and healthy. The Alpaca fibre is entirely natural and eco-friendly as no chemicals or synthetic substances are used in the production process.
